Ricky Taylor Puts Cadillac on COTA Pole in Dominating Performance

The Taylor train kept rolling at Circuit of The Americas on Friday, and maybe even picked up some more speed.

In qualifying for Saturday’s Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown, Ricky Taylor beat the previous IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship lap record on the 3.4-mile COTA track by exactly three seconds, and beat the field by more than 1.5 seconds to take the pole position in the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R with a best lap of 1 minute, 54.809 seconds (106.6 mph).

John Edwards knew he had a strong BMW this weekend at Circuit of The Americas, but admits Friday’s TOTAL USA Pole Award in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying came as a surprise.

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R finished each of the day’s two practice sessions at the top of the leaderboard, with Ricky leading the first session and Jordan topping the charts in the second session with the fastest lap of the day, 1:56.595.

The famed Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, one of the world’s premier racing venues, will be the backdrop this weekend for four fundraising auctions to benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

COTA is the site of the Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown on Thursday-Saturday, featuring races in the International Motor Sports Association’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. The Austin Hatcher Foundation is an official “Proud Charity” of IMSA.
