IMSA Statement On Passing Of Champion Racing Team Owner Dave Maraj

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 22, 2018) – Dave Maraj, a five-time American Le Mans Series championship-winning team owner and owner of Champion Motors in Pompano Beach, Florida, died Saturday in a boating accident.

According to Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving General Manager Tim Rose, there’s only one better seat than the one he frequently occupies in the safety car at IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races.

 “We’d much rather be following the safety car as race drivers ourselves,” Rose says. “But just being involved in the race weekend process and being involved in the other side of the racing and seeing everything that goes on, it’s actually pretty exciting for us.”

At this time one year ago, Eric Foss and Jeff Mosing were riding a streak of three consecutive IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge podiums in the No. 56 Mosing Motorcars Porsche Cayman for Murillo Racing. The team went on to bring that total up to five, which ultimately proved to be the catalyst for the team’s Street Tuner (ST) class championship in October.
