Ferrari’s Nielsen and Balzan Hold GTD Points Lead, Prepare To Defend Scuderia Corsa Victory At VIR In Michelin GT Challenge

Scuderia Corsa will defend its GT Daytona (GTD) class victory in Sunday’s Michelin GT Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway with a new Ferrari and a new driver lineup.

Christina Nielsen and Alessandro Balzan have won two races in 2016 GTD competition in the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3, and hold a 15-point lead with only three races remaining entering Round 10 of the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (live, FS1, 1:30 p.m. ET). Principal Ben Keating Purchases Multimatic Riley LMP2 principal and driver Ben Keating has announced the purchase of a new Riley Mk. 30 LMP2 race car and that he has signed co-driver Jeroen Bleekemolen for a fourth-consecutive season in 2017.

Keating’s full racing program for his new LMP2 effort is being finalized, but he is presently targeting a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans the next three years and a campaign in the IMSA WeatherTech Jim Trueman Award sub-championship in 2017.

Competitors in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Le Mans (GTLM) class will be racing for the overall victory in the Michelin GT Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway on Sunday, August 28 (live, FS1, 1:30 p.m. ET).

The GT Daytona (GTD) class will join the GTLM competitors in the two-hour, 40-minute race on the challenging, 3.27-mile layout. IMSA today released a 26-car entry list for the event, Round 10 of the 2016 WeatherTech Championship.
